Themes and topics

In light of the current debates and trends, the general theme selected for EPIP2025 is “Turning IP Ambitions into Action: Creating Connections, Collaborations and Communities”.

This theme has been identified to ensure that the conference will have a more general thematic umbrella, which is societally relevant and sufficiently inspiring and inclusive to cover a broad variety of research interests within the EPIP community. It might actually also stimulate the participation of researchers from various disciplines that go beyond the traditional EPIP realms.

Linking to the conference theme and building on long-standing lines and areas of interest traditionally covered by EPIP conferences, we envisage the following themes for inviting submissions of papers and abstracts, parallel sessions and for organizing plenary sessions:

The impact of new technologies on IP law

The interface between IP and innovation

The public governance of IP rights

The private governance of IP rights

The role of IP law in addressing crises

The role of IP in stimulating sustainable innovation

IP, diversity and inclusivity

Decoloniality and IP

Crafts, IP and cultural heritage

The conference will welcome contributions on all IP rights (patents, copyright, trademarks, designs, plant variety rights, geographical indications, etc.) and the interface with related legal frameworks such as trade secrets, data protection law, competition law, contract law, technology transfer and cultural heritage law.
